Here is a recent update from my friend Stella on the situation in Kenya….
My brother (Christian) traveled well and arrived in Kenya safely - he left Ottawa on Monday, Jan 14th. My mom sent me an email this week about the situation in Kenya as they are facing it. I thought it might interest you:
The political situation is unsettling, people are stressed, numb, short tempered and it is actually affecting the mental health of a lot of people. There has been such hatred that even in church we are asking ourselves if we are really saved and whether we understand the meaning of salvation. The prophets and intercessors are saying that God requires a repentance of the church and particularly the church leadership in Kenya. They mostly took side in this thing and misled the flock by preaching a contrary gospel. People now have no trust or respect for the church and its leaders. Christians are being called liars and pretenders, and rightly so sometimes. The situation will probably get worse before it gets better. The devil want to destroy this country because of its redemptive calling in the region; we really have to come to our senses and turn to God and God alone. I think when all is said and done, we shall arise from the ashes.
Yesterday, today and tomorrow there are major demonstrations going on in the big towns and everyday lives are lost. You can read it all in the Standard and Nation (Kenyan newspapers) on the Internet. Food and petrol has become very expensive and our movements are limited; we cannot cross the Rift Valley to get to Kisumu, so I just keep in touch with Papa (my grandfather) and talk to him daily.
Kisumu (rural hometown of our family/3rd largest Kenyan city) looks like a war zone and a lot of the buildings in the city were burnt down. People are jobless everywhere and businesses have been obliterated.
Otherwise we are so far ok, we have all we need except that things are very expensive. God is still very much in control, and we will look only to him, don’t worry about us, God will take care.”
Feel free to share - ad to your blog etc. Prayer will change things!
thanks,
Stella.
